After our report of the proceedings of the regular (Tilden) democratic convention vlosed yesterday Judge Henderson, of Catarangus, made the report on permanent organization, naming John C. Jacobs, of Kings, for president and a long list of vice-presidents and secre- taries, ‘The report was adopted. Mr. Morrison, of New York, from the committee on resolu: Mons, to which was referred the resolutions re- ceived from the Tammany convention, reported a resolution, “that the president of the conven- Uon be requested to epg to the communica- Uon received signed by John B. Mr. Devlin, of New York, offered a resolution that the delegates from this state be and they are hereby instructed that it is desirable to continue the two-thirds rule in force in the coming national convention. Adopted. The state committee was given power to fill Yacancles In the list of presidential electors, E. Morrison, of New York, rite on resolutions, nouneing the electoral fraud of | Among the resolutions were the following; “The deg ocratic party of New York add to the demmation Of the electoral conspir. i an emphatic declaration of their cox ia ai confidence in the character, ability = fitness of that distinguished citizen of N was then elected to the highest sein tie people’s gift, and who was in his owa perso, the object of their joint attack on his party, lls tellow-citizens and the cause of free govern- ment. The blow which deprived the country ef its chosen ruler was aimed not so much kim as at the democratic millions who stood bebind him. While making no distinciton as to candidates and committing to our delegat>s a3 heretofore the duty of joining in the delibera- Uons Of the national convention we y fully suggest to our brethen of other states that the dignity and welfare of the party and nation demand of them that they take such ac- Uon as shall best present this great issue to the people. On any such issue the s\ York will speak with no doubtful voice.” The delegation to Cincinnati was instructed to vote as a unit. The resolutions S. Hewitt, of New York, a e tal elector-at-large. The following were elected delogates to the national convention at Lar: Lucius Robinson, Calvin E. Pratt, Rufus’ W. Peckham, Lester W. Faulkner. Alt Wm. H. He expressed fears that the proposition would meet with the same fate whtci befell the efforts for harmony last fall. John Kelly was called for, and on appearing on the platform three cheers were given for him. He referred to the manner in which the proposition dered to the other convention had been trea’ with contempt. He insisted that the no tion of Tilden would be a great wro: a wrong as the people would not tolerate. The committee on permanent organization then reported, and Amasa J. Varker, of Al- bany, was chosen permanent Mr, T. C. Callicot, from the committs lutions, then reported an address to the de- mocracy of the state and nation, which wa3 adopted. After declaring the general principles and alms of democracy the address says: “It was Samuel J. TWO OFFICERS SHOT BY AN OUTLAW.—A special to Bradford (Pa.) from Emporium says fie se excitement prevails at Calbdontn, Elk county, over a terrible tragedy committed taere Saturday morning by a noted forger and out- aw named Harry English. A posse went from St Mary’s to apprehend English, and arrived at Is house, near Caledonia, at 5 ‘clock. Consta- 5 Wrenth and Volmer and Justice Burk met English coming down stairs. Wrenth ordered iim to surrender, but he went back up the stairs and locked’ himself ina room. The of- ficers drew their pistols and declared their in- tention of taking him, dead or alive. As Con- Stable Wrenth came up to the room Eaglish thrust a rifle through the door and shot, killin; lim instantly. Constable Volmer then carrivd Wrenth’s body down stairs, and as he entered the yard English shot Volmer, who, it is thought, will not recover. English gained the woods during the excitement. While he was running District Attorney Nursell shot him tn the leg. Company H, state volunteers, has been ordered out to capture him, if possible. Goersen brought in a verdict that death was caused by arsenic admia- istered by her husband. At the time it was suspected that Mrs. Elizabeth Souder, mother of Mrs. Goersen, had died under Similar cireum- | stances. The certificate of death was to the effect that the cause was Bright's disease of the Kidneys. The coroner's physician made an ex— amination of the body, but nothing was found to justify a professional opinion as to the cause of death. ntly the body of Mrs. Souder was exhumed and the stomach taken out and placed in charge of Dr. Leffman, of the High School for analysis. Saturday Prof. Leffman, testified that the chemical ysis was yet incomplete, but that he had found a half grain of arsenic in the stomach. A verdict was rendered that oe woman had died from poison administered oF Dr. Goersen, and he was committed for tri Dr. F. L. Hay! nes, who had visited the woman only ep and who gave a certificate that she had died from disease of the kidneys, was held as an accessory to the crime, but yesterday, after cared all the testimony in the case, the judge said there was not a particle of evidence connecting Dr. Haines with the an of Mrs. Souders, and therefore discharged him.
