THE PATCH-MUNCASTER CaSE.—The case of Joseph Patch, convicted a few da of an awsault and battery ou Dr. Muncaster some months ago, was decided in the Criminal Court, Judge James, to-day on the motion for a new trial. The court said that the evidence did not show that Patch was an Insane man, and the eoure’s convictions were that he was not in- ahe,although he had dwelt upon the subject of male physicians being improper persons to attend females, that his inind was morbid oa this subject. He was entirely capable of unc standing that he was violating the law when he took the law into his own hands. THE M STREET FaTAL SHOOTING UAsE.—Yest day morning an inquest was held on the body ot Joseph C. Thompson. the colored man who Was found on Saturday, 3d instant, on M stre near Bethel chapel. suffering from a pistol wound in the fleshy part of the right thigh, and the jury rendered a verdict to the effect’ that the said Joseph C. Thompson eame to his death about midnight, April 5, 1580, at Providence Hospital, from a pistol shot wound in the region of the right hip, iutlicted by some person un- known to the jury. It has been stated that the shot of Ofticer Lamb, who was repelling certain rioters, was the fatal one. Yesterday morning, James Hawkins, a colored oyster vender, living at 619 4th street north- west, was found lying unconsctous with a sight wound in the back of his head, in the shed in the rear of his house, and being removed to the house lived only a few minutes. A report was ctreulated that he had been murdered by a man named Charles Wells, and detective McEifresh arrested the supposed assassin and locked him up at headquarters. Yesterday afternoon Dr. Hartigan made a post mortein examination. the result of which proved that Mawkins came to nis death from a natural cause, rapoure of the heart.
