A resolution requesting the appli- cation of one-tenth of the missionary colleetions of churches to founding mission ‘schools was adopted. A resolution to clothe the conference delegates to the general conference with con- ventional powers caused lengthy discussion,and conference adjourned without voting on it. Sixth Bay. To-day on the conference resuming its ses- sion, the resolution that the delegates to the general conference be instructed to vote for a general convention, to be held at the same time and place—in other words, clothing the dele- gates with conventional powers—was taken up and discussed. Commissioner Morgan was introduced, and Rov. T. McCormick remarked that he had, with the Major, called on the President and Mrs. Hayes, who received him most cordially. The President and Mrs. Hayes would recelve the members of the conference between 13g and 3 'eiock to-day. ‘The conference voted to leave the church to visit the President at 2 o'clock. After some further discussion the resolution empowering the delegates to the general con- ference #9 hoid a convention was adopted. ‘The committee on missions reported that in view of the demand made by the Virginia Aid Society for $1,600 on account of the Indebtedness to the Norfolk church, they tender such chureh to the Virgtuia conference, and that Norfolk mission be discontinued. “A iong debate fol- lowed, and the latter item was lost—31 to 33. Ctreuit Court in Baltimore yesterday, for the appointment of a temporary receiver, pendente lite, In the case of D. kh. Stewart et al. vs. the Chesapeake and Ohio canal company, and March 25 was fixed by dudge Morris for the hearing. The Sun says: The petition alleges that it appears by the answer of the company that in February, 1877, alease was made between the Potomac Lock and Dock company, of Montgomery county, of the first part, Henry H. Dodge, of the second part, the state of Maryland of the third, and the Stene, the Wife Murderer. PROBABILITY THAT BE WILL HAVE TO HANG ON ‘THE 26TH INSTANT. They were married October 2, 1519, by Rey. Henry E. Johnson, of Baltimore, Md., and lived together until October 9, 1579, one week, When he committed, repeate acts of cruelty po oe her, taking her into their bedroom and icting serious stabs with 2 knife in her breast. He was subsequently tried in the Criminal Court om the charge of assault with intent to kill, convicted and seatenced to the Albany penitent for five years, Judge Hagner denied the prayer for a divorce inthe case of Lester W. Burton agt. Nellie L. Burton. In this case petitioner sets forth that they were married at E) , N. ¥., in Septem- ber, 1575, and lived together until January, 1877, and he charged that at the Canandaigua hotel, in that place, she committed aduitery with Wm. S. Smith, and the same misconduct was re- pat by the parties at the National hotel, ochester, N. Y. Judge Hagner, in giving his opinion, said that the circumstances attending the presentation of the eatise were suggestive of coliusion between the parties. The defend- ent was certainly not a resident of the District, but presents herself here, and on the day the summons was issued acknowledged {ts service, and afterward, with brazen effrontery, over her own ature, admits herself to be an adulter- ess to the extent cl in the bill, far exceed- ing in infamy the utmost limit of the testimony. It should require some affirmative evidence to remove the impression of connivance and collu- sion to obtain the divorce which such facts now naturally excite.
