Further inquiries by our reporters into the circumstances attending the sudden deaths of John and Jane Reilly, who were found dead in the room over the stable of Mr. Ben Holladay yesterday, as related in Tag Srar last evening, confirms our statements yesterday, that Reilly and his wife were on the very best terms with each other, and as far as known there were no differences whatever between them. Mrs. Reilly has for the past four or five months been employed in the family of Mr. George E. Baker, tlormeny comptroller of the District), at 1104 ety of houselveper, aud apie int the caps ‘ity of hot T, an a as he had ity, visited her there almost every eventug. ‘They pene cae wogether mn Saturday night, Mrs. Rell a sick friend—a Mrs. Cannon—Reilly company ng ker, and they returned to Mrs. Baker's after 10 o’clock when he left her at the toor and went to the stable. On Sunday even- ing Reilly called on his wife about 8 o'clock, and after sitting with her for over half an hour, pro- that she should take a walk with him. she at first declined to do, saying that she did not then desire to change her dress, but he stating that he wished her to take only a short. walk she consented to go, and wrapping a Cane cloak about her went out with him. Our re ter was misinformed yesterday as to 4 TS Reilly pee been under the influence of liquor. She had the reputation among her employers and acquaintances of being a true christian woman, faithfully and trustworthy, and uno- addicted to drink or any other conduct unbe- coming a good woman. At the time they went out together her husband was also sober, as he jhad been all day, and in excellent spirits. MAN AND WIFE. John Reilly was about 47 or 48 years of age, and was a native of Ireland. He was brought to this country when a small boy, Sor 9 years of age, and after his father worked in New York a few years he settled in Rhode Island and worked in the sugar refineries of Providence and Bristol, the deceased working with him. ‘The father marrying for the second time, the de- ceased at the age of 17, struck out for himself, and finding employment as a coachman in New York state, he remained there until the early art of the war, when he came to this city with is employer. Here he found employment as coachman for the English minister, Lord Lyons, and remained in his employment ‘until he (Lord L.) was recalled. While at Lord Lyons’ he mar- ried the wife who died with him—her maiden name being Jane Delargy. Like her husband, she was a Bative of the Emerald Isle, and came here when quite a child. At Lord Lyons’ she was regarded as one of the most industrious and faithful of his employés, and such has been her character ever since, She has also been a very devout member of the Catholic church, attending St. Mavthew’s. After their marriage he obtained a place in the ‘Treasury and was fora long time in charge of the horses used by the bureau of engraving and printing, and subsequently he was for several years a watehman inthe bureau. While thus employed they resided on 16th street, between Kand L, and they bought a piece of property at the corner of 17th and O streets northwest, valued at about. $3,000, on which they gave a deed of trust and had reduced the indebtedness to about $1,000. Mrs? Reilly, to assist him, ob- tained employment, and together their income for some time past has been about $60 per month. Reilly was rather a spare built man and would weigh about 145 or 150 pounds. He had a dark complexion, angular face, straight nose and dark brown hair. He wore a full beard, which was slightly ‘tinged with grey. His wife was rather a ‘small woman, 49 years old, and would weigh 110 or 120 pounds. She was rather delicate looking, with regular fea- tures, dark hair, and was quite handsome, being extremely neat and tidy in her | habits. A CHEMICAL ANALY Coroner Patterson this mornin; y applied to District Commissioners for an order upon Prot. DeSmedt, District chemist, to make a chemical sis of the poison. found in the stomachs of Mr. and Mrs. Reilly yesterday. The order was issued and the report of the chemist will go be- fore the coroner's jury. Railroads in South Washington. MEETING OF THE CITIZEN'S PROTECTIVE AS3OCIA- TION. A meeting of the Citizen’s Protective Associa- tion, of South Washington, was held last night, Mr. J. H. Johnson in the chair and Mr. W. R. Brown secretary. Mr. Wright, from the com- mittee of twenty-five, spoke of the fair prospects a citizens now have of successfully prosecu- the B. & P. R. R. Co. in the courts. The wa tions of law by the company, he sald, are of daily and almost hourly occurrence, es- yeaa: in their occupancy of Virginia and land avenues as a common freight depot, and ‘of the sidewalks aud street crossings at the approaches to the company’s round-house on D street. Tle sald suit should be commenced at once. He thought the reply of Attorney Riddle, on the reference to the petition to him by the District committee was encor ing. Dr. Allen said it only remained for the citizens to inaugu- Tate the suit. There are thousands of these vio- lations of law by the road as all are well aware. It is only necessary for the sufferers of the line of thisroad to make note of the violations of law, and specifically state them to the offi- cers prosecuting, in order that the in- formation may be properly sustained. Mr. Bum! Mr, uulinane stated that. tn conversation re- cently with Major Twining the latter had men- tioned the subject of tunueling Maryland and Virginia avenues. Dr. Alien said they had just 1d themselves of a mud canal between South Washington and Pennsylvania avenue. Dr. Culver said if they were hatching up any such scheme as that for mak- ing a dry canal for a railroad to pass between South Washington and Pennsylvania avenue, all would be in favor of tea up the tracks. ‘The chatr said he for one would prefer to have” the track on top of the streets than any such scheme as that. The whole matter was finally left with the committee of twenty-five, who were also instructed to call upon Col. Casey to get his co-operation with them.
