STATEMENTS MADE IN ed SEGISLATURE YESTER- Inthe Maine house of delegates yesterday after our telegraphic repor* elosed a large num- ber of remonstrances were presented by persons claiming seats in the house. BD. L. Murcy, of Ellsworth, claims the seat of Eugene Hale. A committee of. five was appomted to investigate the attempted bribery of members. There was less than a quorum inthe douse at any time About forty members were present, conversing in groups, aith anxiety depleted on’ their coun- tenances. Mr. Talbot, the Speaker, Colonel Wm. Dickey, Mr. Plaisted, Mr. Perry, of Cam- den, and other leagers had frequent econsulta- tons, and appeared extremely anxious at the poe e situation of affairs. Fears seemed to be ex. ve apprehensions entertained Bint the thet repU licans were about te-swoop down, upon them ‘and capture the government. A committee was appointed to wait on General Chamberlain in regard to the: condition of af- fairs. They inquired if he would use bis power rotect the two houses. The General would make no promise, but that howM do his duty as acting governor and commander-in-chief no one doubis. The house was cvidentiy anxious ‘© get a quorum. The fusionists again sent for Mr. Voter, of Farmington, whe-kas frequently retused to take his certificate. It was repo: that the session was prolonged: in- waiting for Mr. Voter, but he failed to come, and ata quar- ter to 6 o'clock the house adjourned without transacting any business whatever. }R. SWAN'S STATEMENT AS TO: THE ATTEMPT TO BRIBE HIM. The statement, by Mr. Swan, member of the Maine legis!ature, (Fusion branch), as to the attempt to bribe him, Js as follows: I came from my home to this city on Savurday, January Lateon the evening of January 5 a reltable per- son, Who is now a member of thts house, in- formed me that Wallace R. White, of Winthro) Pp, had called upon him and offered him $1,000 in cash to deliver. pp his certificate resign asa member of the house, which, he had reiused to } accept, and that said White- informed him that he wanted three more men to. resign, and re- | quested him to see me.
