MYSTERIOUS SHOOTING OF A MoTHER By HER DAUGHTER.—Mrs. Helen Josephine Ward, living in Boston with her daughter, a girl of 19’ years, was mysteriously shot Monday night ‘while a and died Tuesday morning. The daughter was arrested. Conflicting statements are attributed to her—one being that she saw an object moving about the room and fired at {t, supposing it to be a burglar. On the other hand it Is stated that she confesses to having shot her mother while lying in bed beside her, under the impression there was a burglar in the room, and the pistol was accidentally discharged in the excitement of the moment. Boston dispatches of last nigat additional details of the shooting of Mrs. Ward by her ane ne afford no idea of the existence of any motive whatever for that act. The unhappy affair was a subject of universal comment, but no one is able to justify a statement that the shooting was in any way the result of mali ‘The girl was visited at the police station Tue day night, and wept bitterly over her situation. She expressed the most sincere affection for her mother, a statement that 1s borne out by the intimate friends of the family, and she has beg- ged that her mother be not interred until she can see her. The friends of the young woman assert that it must have been ‘a case whe great nervous excitement made her entirely i responsible for the act, even if it was committed by her. The case is one that will be very tain to engage the attention of medical Scie: Usts to no small extent. Intense interest is, pressed in the forthcoming examination. Friends of the parties testified to the affectionate relations existing between mother and daughter, and no motive for the deed has yet been discovered.
