BoaTuen © THE MINERS FOR STRIK ‘A mneeting of over 64 boatinen ‘was held here yesterday with Abraham Kroon president and John Cabiil secretary. Thecom- mittee appointed at a former meeting to c> with the miners reported that they had made an unsu ‘ul attempt to meet the latter and that they were credibly informed that the sec- retary of the miners pocketed the telegraphic dispatches sent and did not present them to the miners’ meeting. A resolution was adopted condemning the action of the miners’ secretary as unworthy of aud unbecoming to the boai- men as fellow-workmen. It was further re- solved that from all the information in their power to obtain that the companies for which they are poetae are unable to pay an advance at this time, and that they will for the present agree to boat at 70 cents. BLACKBURN PaRDONS FOURTEEN CON- VICTS.—A special to the Louisville Courier-Jour- nalfrom Frankfort, Ky., Oct 2, says: Tne gov- ernor this evening, {n company with the board of phystelans and the prison commissioners, made a visit to the penitentiary. At the gate he found the sheriff of Madison, having in charge anegro woman wituachild one year old. errer name was Margaret Oidham, and she and her husband had both been convicted of burglary. The child could not be held tn prison, and Madison county had made no provision for it. The woman said she had six other children at home, and she did not know how they would be eared for, so the governor settled the difi- culty by ordering her pardon. He then went into the prison, and after examining every case in both hospitals, ordered pardons to b2 written for eleven men and three wonen. All of them were cases which merited removal trom the Black Hele. They represented consumption, scrofula, scurvy, syphilis and other dise ies.
