THE EVENING STAR. WASHINGT N: SATURDA ape 12, 1879. OROSBY &. NOYES....Editor. advertisers to-day take pretty complete Possession of the paper, but we propose to make amends to our readers by issuing an in- teresting double sheet next Saturday. In the meantime they will find these fresh STaR ad- Vertisements exceedingly readable. ——_—_——_+9-____ The Cincinnati papers hint that Mr. Hen- Gricks’ positive refusal to run second on any Presidential ticket in 1890 should be taken with an “if” ——_—____+--_______ ‘The citizens of the District, appreciating the intelligent and faithful labors of Mr. Hunton in their behalf upon the District committee, ex- Press no little satisfaction that he has now een made chairman of the committee. Sev- eral new members have been placed upon the committee, but they have a reputation for prac- tical ability and legal knowledge that gives assurance that they will co-operate intelligently with the capabie old members. ———— ‘The verdict of the jury in the case of Louisa Wallace, convicted of infanticide, and the re- marks of Judge Hagner in delivering the death sentence, indicate a purpose on the part of the court to put acheck upon this growing crime, If possible, by enforcing severe penalties. If, as Judge Hagner believes, thts city has a bad pre-eminence in the crime, tt is high time that It should be made odious. —___--____—_. The Georgians are moving in various direc- tions to put down the practice of carrying con- cealed weapons. At Atlanta several persons, including two women, have been indicted for the practice. A demandis to be made upon the legislature at the summer session to prohibit the bringing of pistols into the state and their sale there, and it 1s stated that the old law of the state forbidding the carrying of concealed ‘weapons, and which has been a dead letter for thirty or forty years, will be revived, and vigor- ously enforced. What the Georgians will find to be more to the purpose, however, will be to discountenance the use of deadiy weaponson the most trivial occasions, as has been to much the habit in some parts of the south. It will not be an easy matter to prevent the carrying of concealed weapons, but something may be done in the way of discrediting their hasty use. ns timely uso of wh ae serene ont “ag ‘PLAIN ‘nD PANOY GOrToN AND LISLE SILK AND LINEN HANDEERCHIE!
