That paper now gives the results of | Interviews with 127 democratic members of the Forty-tifth Congress, mostly from the south and west, upon the candidates next term. Forty- | ‘two declined to express a preference; titty were | positively for Thurman, and to eleven others | he was acceptable; Hendricks was the first | choice of twelve and was acceptable to twenty- eight more; Bayard was the choice of ten and was acceptable to nineteen others; and ‘Tilden had a following of only thirteen as first choice | and nine for second, while fifty-seven declared | open hostility to his nomination.
