The advantages of such a building have already been discussed at length in this column; and it only remains for us to hope that the recommendation may receive due consideration, and that the much needed struc- ture may become an accomplished fact. Ac- cording to the plans and estimates submitted, $200,000 will be sufficient for the purpose. = for the votes, pre —— ee Dynamite, a modern invention, and etectri- city, whose applications have so increased in number and importance in recent years, have been the means when used with ingenuity of solving a problem that has come down to us from old Roman times. This probiem is how to drive away malaria from the Roman campagna and make it fertile and productive. A thin layer of soil lies upon a stratum of tufa and Other voleanic material, about seven feet in thickness. Water does not sink through this Stratum, but dries upon the surface.
