On Saturday night, the 5th Instant, Mrs. Al- Stone, wife of James Madison Wyatt Stone (both colored), was killed by her husband with a razor at house No. 11{7 19Uh street nw., after he had made an unsuccessful attempt to cut the throat of her sister, Lavinia Pitcher, who has | Since recovered. Stone was arrested shortly after committing the bloody deed, and was com- | mitted to jail by the coroner. He sent for his Bible and a book called “How Souls are Saved,” Just before his commitme: He states that he is happy, whatever fate may befall him, for God | on the night of the ith instant pardoned his sins, and he knows that he will be saved if he only trusts in him, A SKETCH OF THE PRISONER, Stone is a stout built yellow man, weighing about 176 pounds, and is in his 35th year. He IS a native Of Westport, Maine, and has worked much of his time tending steam engines, and at one time run a steamer in Maine, and was once employed as engineer at a mill in Virginia. He came here about 18i0, and-has worked as a laborer. For three years_he was a messenger in the Office of the New York Associated Press in this city. He was married here March 10th, isis, Dy Kev. Wm. Gibbons, of the Baptist chureh, and has two children. £ STONE'S STATEMENT. As to the relations between his wife, her Sister and hiinself, Stone said to a Sax repor- ter yesterday, that he and his wife parted on the 2d of September last, and that the separa- tion was caused by her sister and some of her acquaintances ;,that on the day of the fatal citing he was at the house in the afternoon and accompanied his wife to 1112 G street where she was carrying some clothes home, and on the way they talked of the ration, She stating that he had spoken an; to her and abused her sister, who he stated was not doing as she ought to do, and had tried to persuade his wife to live a lewd life. His wife told him that her sister fad brought company to the house and they had promised if she did not take her husband back they would see that she Was supported, but she had declined all these offers. She told him to get work as soon as he could and rent a house and she would return to him and live with him a3a wife should. She further said (iat some of the company had threatened her if she ever went to live with him again. He and his wife had some talk, he Stated, about some money he had missed—sés— which he taken and spent by the ‘sister, STONE'S ACCOUNT OF THE KILLING.
