In making a proper distributien of the depart- ment your committee recommend (after thor- oughly can¥assing the city) that one of the heok and ladder companies should be placed in the first ward, bet and 24th sts. and the circle and M street north, thereby command- ing Georgetown, and northwestern and central sections of this city; the other truck company should be located ‘on Capitol Hill, between B and D streets northeast and Delaware avenue and 2d street northeast, which vill command the northeast, southeast and center of the city. 7 opt this suggestion it will be necessary onvert the Pucsent hook and ladder house into an engine house and place one of the new engine companies there. CLOSE GAME OF Base Batt YESTERDAY.— About the largest and by far the most enthusi- astic crowd that has been presemt at a game of ball this season witnessed the contest yester- day afternoon between the Nationals and the New Bedfords. The game was well played on both sides, and was intensely exciting. The New Bedfords lead pretty easily till they lefe the bat at the close of their ninth inning. When the Nationals came in the score stood 6 to4. By good batting they—amid the wildest 1iot of uproar—finished the ninth inning by ueing the New Bedfords, the score being 6 to 6. Although it was Betting pretty dark, the New Bedfords took a tent = inuing at’ the bat, making one run. Darkness prevented the game being finished, and it was decided a tie on the score at the close of the ninth inning. Mr. Butler's umpiring was very {i and showed prett The Bed. ¥ good judgment. fords kicked ve “against his deci: but afterwards era ‘ully accepted the situation. One thing they did not accept gracefully was the manner ini which Reilly, one of their nine, was put out after batting Bannon for a home run. He ran around the es before the ball Was gotten home, iled to touch third base. None of the jonals noticed this, and were ready to go on with the game. One of their outside friends yelled to Bannon to throw the ball to third. This he did, and the umpire decided Reilly out. The New Bedfords did not like this, and’protested against being “given away” by an outsider, but had to submit. The ine] ee did have a rather jockeyish look about it.
