In the Police Court to-day, Judge Snell ren- dered his decisions in the Mechlin assault cases. The parental relation eon- fers the authority as it ereates the right of family government, as recognized in the com- mon law, which materially abridged the “pat- ria _potestas” of the old Roman law. But whe the punishment is, in their opinion thus unrea* sonable, and itappears that the parent acted m@oaninio, from wicked motives, under the influence of an vnsocia heart, he ought to be liable for damages.
