FOR THE POLICE. A communication was read from Mr. George W. Walling, superintendent of police of New York city, recommending the em- loyment of a military man on the police’ Tore to drill the men in military tactics, which would much increase the efficiency of the service. The board adopted the recom- mendation, and referred the matter to Major Richards to find a competent man to fll the position. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS. A report from Capt. Brock on the cor of the furnaces aid stoves in the station- houses, and recommending that they be re- paired before cold weather comes on, was Teferred to the committee on station-houses. George Miles was designated as special po- licen an at the Northern Liberty market. A rejort of Capt. Brock as to the monthly ex- penses of sia‘lon-houses shows a reduction of $105 per month for each precinct. It was also recommended that in future the mea bave their own washing done; adopted.
