The petitions set forth that the United States on the 15th of Septem- ber, 1871, became leasee of ‘tis Property for five years at a rent of $25,000 per annuin for ene portion, and of $10,000 per annum for an- other portion; that the United States (which then removed the pension office to the Shep- herd buildivg,) vacated the building on the 12th of September, and that the rent was aid up to the Ist day of July; that Secretary uurZ offered to pay the rent to the,15th of plember on condition that the owners would execute a full aequittance of all de- mands on the United States for rent. This the petitioners say they declined to do on the ground that it would injure the claim for further compensation. They further set forta that unless relief is granted before tue 30th of June the sum due for rent will be covered into the U. S. Treasury, and. be no jonger ap- lteahte for that purpose. Taney ask a me i- damus to prevent the Secretary of the Inte- rior from covering this money into the bg!
