Marony, a damsel of thirty summers, ‘wi 0 sues James Langstaff,a young man residing on Myrtle avenue, rooklyn, for $15,000 damages. It is alleged by the plaintiff that she was oe asa forewoman in a cloak store in New York, and that in the early part of last summer she was introduced tothedefendant by the latter’s aunt. Langstaff, whose father died about a "year and a-half ago, leaving him D ig oie valued at over one hundred and fi thou- sand dollars, it is alleged, fell violently in love with Miss Marony, and asked permis- sion to escort her home, which was granted. He visited her bag d often, frequently wrote her most gushing jetters, declaring his pas- sion in the warmest terms, took her to places of amusement, presented her with a valuable diamond ring, and on several occasions took her riding in Ce: itral Park. He finally begged her, it is also Van age to be his wife, and after several refusals she consented, and the Ast of October was fixed as the day for the wedding. Miss Marony immediately spent, as she alleges, all her ready money’ for her trosseau, and a few days previous to the day fixed for the nuptials she was astonished to receive a letter from Langstaff regretting having made the promises, and stating that ps knew he had treatea aer badly, but beg- her to exeuse him. She called on him a friend, when he told her that the letter haa been written at the urgent solicitations of his relatives, but that since sending it he had repented of hisaction, and again renewe 1 his ise to marry her. He accompanied her home, but the next morning again re- fused to carry out his agreement. The de- fendant denies the material allegations inthe complaint. aias.
