A Gymnastic PIG. —And now is this—that is to say, in the year 1876, a Kentucky pig has suddenly developed a genius for gymnas- ties and engineering which ecli the proud- est previous achievements of his race. This eminent pig was recently placel by his owner in @ pasture surrounded by a high wall and ornamented by elm tress festooned with wild grapevines. The walls, however, could not confine his bold and vagrant siprit. Se- lecting a tree standing near the Western wall of the pasture, he carefully bit loosethe lower end a stovt grapevine which was attached by its tendrils toa limb on a tree, and taking this improvised rope his mouth, swang him- self in the air until he had gathered an im- petus which sent him entirely over the wall and landed him in the next field. Though often recaptured, he has constantly repeated this extraordinary feat, and his intelligent ownef, instead of cutting down his elm trees to restrain his pig’s wandering propensity, has wisely decided to educate him for the trapeze business, provided so noble a spirit proves willing to minister to the amusement of a cireus audience. A HALF DOLLAR IN A Boy’s sopHa- 5 It seems almost incredible that a boy ght years old, ora person of any age, could have carried in his aesophagus a silver half dollar for nearly three weeks without experiencing any inconvenience except a frequent desire to spit, yet we have the best evidence that such was the case with the coin now on exhibition in the Journal office wia- dow. On Thursday the 19th day of October, Dr. W. H. Hazard, of Wakefield, was called to attend a little boy eight years old, the son of George Booth, of Peacedale, who, it was said. had got a half dollar stuck in his throat. Dr. Hazard was quite sure that he felt the half dollar by the pressure of his hand on the neck externally. On the 2ist of October the boy came to Providence and was examined by Dr. Robart Miller, who, we are informed, came to the conclusion that the boy was mis- taken, and that there was no half dollar either in his throat or stomach.
