Although the psy, is full of interest and is generally ac- now léedged to contain the material for the American play, still there is something that is lacking, and that is the Onishing touches of a dramatic masterhand. The robbery scene seems to be particularly bungling, and as a general thing the *“ business” is not up to the standard. The characters, however. are admirabie representations of the life of which they sre types, and are for the most part very well sustained. Mr. Robson as “Col. Starbottle” is excellent, and is des- lined to make that cbaracter as fully identi- fied with himself as “Sellers” is with Ray- mond. Messrs. Piympton and Hamilton, the two men of Sandy Bar, are all that could be desired. There is very little for the Heathen Chinee to do, but that little is well done. It seems that such a settal aernceer should have @ little larger field. San Fran- cisco by moonlight should be removed. Taken as a whole, the play runs pretty moothly, and is destined to please, so long it is in Stuart Robson’s hands and he olds bimself personally responsible.
