Mr. £.L Schmidt, a prominent German- American citizen, died on the 19th tostaat, at bis residence, in the county, a short dis- tance from Uniontown, in the 524 year of bis age. He was a native of Darmstadt, ee a and for #ixteen years past a resi- a jsahington, during Waton time he was largely engaged in the insurance busi- ness. ‘Mr. Schmidt was fora time a police magistrate, and LP mag ores ofa peace a nomi years his death. He assisted in the organization of the German-American Fire Insurance Company of this = becoming its first secretary and agent, ine success of that company was largely owing to hisefforts.
