The following dispatch concerning the con- @ition of Speaker Kerr was telegraphed here late yesterday afternoon from Rock Alum Springs, Va., by Dr. Pope: Mr. Kerr suffered the most fntense agony up to midnight last night, but thereafter res comfortably. As the stomach is the controlling influence with probably four-fifths of the human race, Or At least of that quota of the so-called ciy- lized portion of it, one can not well write of the great exposition without some reference to the arrangements made for feeding its visitors. Therefore a few words in regerd to the restaurants and other like conveniences on the grounds. When theexhibition was first opened, and for rome time afterward, there was much and just comp!aint over the extonionate prices charged at all or neariy @ll these establishments. Latterly, how. ever, there has not, I believe, exist i. id for fo much unfavorable criticism. 4 bave been able to get as good a meal at the major- ity, and for about the same amount of money, a8 ta restaurant of correspo nding rade in New York, Pailadelphia or Wash ingion,— making some allowauce, of course, as one sbould, for difference iu situation and facilities, aud also for the unusual rash at times of hungry people. This is true even of the much abused establishment of les Trois Freres Provencauz, which is the best, if the bighest priced, on the grounds.
