His friends hope that these reports do him Injustice. To put the case very mildly, Mr. A, Hart is not the sort of person to be bel up before th» youth of the city as an ex- emplar; and why he should receive this ex- ceptional honor over the long line of la- borious, capable and honorable citizens who have served on the school board during the histery of our school system is unaccountable. We suppose the teachers bad no further share in the trans- action than signing the subseription paper when it was gees around, but it seems to us they should, as the mentors of the chil- dren in their charge have hesitated before giving that signature. The whole thing has & very unpleasant look. but we forbear far- ont comment until fully informed of the facts. REVIVAL VIEWS— Brot/ Mvedy on Chu: Pairs, Women Preachers, Elc—A variety of questions e put to Mr. Moody at the church eonvention In New York by various Tgyinen, with reference to the most suc cessful methods of conducting a revival, and these were answered with great readiness. It was his opinion, that if the church was apathetic, the pastor should get a few of the brethren to pray with him as the first step. Three men were enough to move any town, ifonly God was with them. If the trastee: would notopen the church doors, he would pray for the trustees. Many churches im @ great mistake in electing men for trustees who were not religious men. If the miuister was apathetic, then the congregation should g00n without them. Converte1 drankards would labor most effectively among drunkards. So with cor verted infidels. In regard to children, great discretion should be used, as they were apt, if forward in evan- gelical work, to be spoiled by pride. More- over, be was In favor of asking persons at. revival meetings to rise for prayer. Every one had to bear his cross, and the first step towards converting any one was to get him to do something he did not want todo. As to whether women should be permitted to | abies in the pulpit, be said that was a con- roveried point. As for himself, he did not want bis wife to go about preaching. (This elicited @ laugh.) In reply toa question as to the advisability of ‘beginnin: u Work at a time of political excitement, Mr. Moody said that not one-half as much harm was ever done to revival movements by pol- ities as by those miserable church fairs.
