ARREST OF THREE Susricious CHARA‘ TEKS—Detective McDevitt observed a sw picious looking man lurking about the neighborhood of the German Savings Bank, corner ‘th and F streets, yesterday, and shadowed him for some time, when the man took @ street car up F street, and Me. dis- covered that there were three of them acting together, two having gone into the Patent Office. McDevitt left the one he was watcbing, and on Ky) into the Patent Of fice he discovered the two watching the bank from @ corner window. He entered into a conversation, which resuited in taking them into custody and lodging them at police headquarters. Subsequently, in yd upF street, he saw the one he first noticed about the bank at thecornerof F and 15th streets, and took him in also. Allof the three put on considerable ‘offended dignity,” bat they were somewhat taken down when evidences ascertained to be Jack ney, a reputed bank thief, whose “racket” it is to watch for bank runners or depositors and rob them of their bank books on the street. Another gave his name as Charles H. Keene, both of them staying at a first-class hotel. On Tierney was found a printed circular showing bow to open any of Hall's safes without @ key. The other one gave his name as Charles Howard; he ts about 5 feet 7% inches high, dark hair, eyes, and moustache. An adjourned meeting of the Board of Trustees was held last evening—Mr. Cartis in the chair, Mr. Brooks secretary, and all the members present except. Messrs Brown, Brooks, Hart, Motfatt, Ryder and Smith. The chairman said the business for the evening was the compensation of janitors. Mr. Packard, from the special commities on the subject, submitted the report and called attention to the contingent and inci- dental expenses of the colored schools being More than those of the white schools, and also read a statement of such expenses of the colored schools (numbering 8) compared with expenses of tne same kind of the first and second district white schools (numbering Mr. Brooks explained that the larger bills charged against the colored schools were for work done before the consolidation of the boards. Mr. Packard said that he took the figures frcm the official papers, and he had no means of determining Whether the amounts were paid on old or new accounts.
