POISONED Bb OLORED STOCKINGS.—A little girl named Collins, in Chicago, was badly poisoned by wearing striped hose. The stockings were submitted to an analytical chemist, and 1t appears from his report that the chiid was poisoned by picric acrid, which is a compound of carbolle anit nitri¢ acids. Ten grains of this acid will cause the death ofa in a very short time, and two grains are a dose for @ healthy adult. Its effects upon the system are somewhat similar to that of arsenic. One-third of a grain isa large dose for a child, and there appears to have been enough picric acid in the stock- ings to cause considerabledisarrangement of the system of the Collins girl.
