THE EVANGELICAL MERTING LASC NIGHT. Last night a meeting of the convention of pastors and delegates of the evangelical churches to invite Messrs, Moody and Sankey to this city was held at the Congregational ehureh. Key. Mason Nobte presided, and, after devotional exercises, Rev. Dr. J. P. Newman gave a shert account of the reeont visit of Messrs, Wethersby and Holroyd to Lais city. Rev. G@ A. Hall gave an interesting ac counter bis visit to Mr. Moody, and of the work in which he is Row engaged. He said thet Northfield, bis native place, heinz a Unitarian stronzholt, had seerely had a re vival of religion for a hundred years, and that he felt it to be his duty to “sweep bafore his own door” by commencing his work in this country there. Some conversions had already occurred, and there were indications Of @ most gracious outpouring of God’s spirit. With jegard to his advent here, Mr. Hall said that Mr. Moody exclaimed with empha- sis. “Hall, Lam coming to Washington; but how soon T cannot tell. I feel a deep concern for the bundreds of young men there who are outof Christ, and I want to point out to them the way of salvation, through His blool. This, however, was only Mr. Hall's opinion, baselon his inti- mate knowledge of his character and mode of action. Mr. Noble thon stated that the subject for consideration this evening was the expe- dieney of starting a daily evening prayer mecting at 5 p.m.,to be held in dilfereat churches, one week at a time. A general discussion of his proposal ensued, when quite @ difference of opinion was apparent. Rev. Drs. Gray, Dashiel, and Chester decide lly favored it, while Rev. Mr. Pitzer opposed it.
