Pre- vious to it there was not a more prosperous business street, and now it has become al- most deserted by business men, and dwelling houses are being vacated. The clouds of dast that almost constantly envelop them are Worse than thesimoon of Arabia. Furniture | and everything in their houses is nearly ruined. Itenters into everything they eat and drink and wear. For his part, tie ae- sired & concrete pavement, and was willing to pay for it. Only one-third of the cost could pe charged to them, and the cost would not average more than one dollar per front foot. On this they should at once unite, otherwise they would all be utterly ruined. ‘It is sim. ply folly to talk about watering this street | to keep the dust down—the citizens had been already taxed beyond their ability, and at the best this is only a temporary remedy, and ¢oes not do away with the mud in rainy weather. IN FAVOR OF CONCRETE. Similar remarks were mate by Messrs. Charlies Riley, John W.Talbuarg, — Tats_ panugh, MeWaits, John Naas, Join Connell and others, all giving their’experience and views.
