NION AND UNEXPECTED NTATIONS. Yesterday afternoon the room of female in- termediate school No. 1, second district, (5th street, betw M and N,) in charge of Miss Emily Billings, was the scene of a very pleas- ant reunion, the occasion being the celebra- tion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Miss Billings’ appointment to a position in the public schools of Washington. Among those sent, besides her present scholars and nds interested in her and her school, were many who had at some time during these twenty-five years been under her instruction, or in some way connected with her in her fessional capacity. yy reqvest, Mr. Woodward, of the Board Sehool Trustees, oecupied the chair. INTERESTING REMINISCENCES. Of by-gone school days it may be men- tioned that of those officially associated in the educationa] work of our city a quarter of a century ago, but six are now living, and but one was present to interchange congratu- lations yesterday. Of the trustees of that period. Mr. Wm. Ashdown was present. Mr. Ashdown represented not only the school- board of isis, but the board of aldermen of that and several prior years, and he will be Femembered by the older eitizens of the an- cient “Island” as haying done that section of our city zood service asa judicious trustee and friend of our then infant school system, ard also as a “city father.” Gen. Peter F. , Dr. Jas. E. Morgan and Peter W i were the compeers and succe: sors of Mr. lown, all of the fourth school district, pt Mr. Bacon. Mr. Jonas B. Ellis in 1848, anc prior to that time, repre- sented the third school district (Navy Yard and Capitol Hill), and afterwards he mi- grated to South Washington, where he served for several years and represented the schools of South Washington with zealous fidelity. Mr. Geo. J. Abbot, of the first school district (all that ‘tion of our city West of 0th street west), was one of Miss Billing’s earliest and warmest friends, as, ced, he was of every teacher worthy of name. Mr. Abbot combined unusual ‘qualifications for the positions that he held— trastee. and treasurer of the board, three wi pay, then equivalent in the kind of duties to those of the present su- perintendent aad secretary. He was a - teal teacher, a fine holar, an affable gentleman, and an arent friend of popular eduertion. Mr. Abbot does not now reside in the city. Of the teachers of a quarter of a century back, all that were then and now employed in our public school work were mt yesterday. They were Mrs. Emily Myers asd Mise iting, Of the second school district; Mrs. Rodier, of the first, and John E. Thompson. of the fourth, who is now the Jongest in service, this being his twenty- eighth year. PRESENTATIONS.
