It is stated that the House Committee on Banking and Curreney will report a bill pro- Viding that the internal revenue and postage stamps shall be printed by the Bureau of Ea- graving and Printing; but that one or more impressions of the currency printing shall be done outside of the Treasury. That is to say, the printing of the latter is to be divided with the bank note companies. While, in View of the fact that the entire work cannot probably be executed in the Treasury Build- ing for want of room, it may be well that the Printing should thus be divided, the bill equire that the entire printing should Washington under the supervision eument. The New York bank note companies have expressed their willing- ness to do the work here; and they should certainly be required to do so. It has always been an awkwart, absurd cir- eumlocutory process, bandying the packages Of notes about between Washington and New York in the process of printing; not only in- volving heavy expenses for express tolls, but Placing large sums of money continually in danger of loss under all the contingencies of railway travel, cartage, &¢., &c. There is No more reason why the government note printing should be divided between New York and Washington than that the govern- ment coining should be divided in the pro- cesses of stamping and finishing, between different eit ——_-<e--____ The Amenities of Railroad Travel. ‘There passed through the city this morn- ing the remains of Mr. P. B. Gilbert, a prom- inent merchant and member of the Masoni fraternity of New York city, accompanied by his wife and daughter, and under Masonic ‘Templar escort from Richmond.
