FAY DAY DEFERRED AGAIN. The new check books for the payment of the employees of the District and Board of Pablic Works were completed and delivered last night to the controller from the bureau of engraving and printing, Treasury department, far are found to be defective in the omisston of the fol- lowing words: ‘Payable by the Treasury of the United States when counteraigned by the Com- m stioners.” This endorsement precedes the signature of the District treasurer, and wili cause some delay in the payments. Some points of law have also been raised as to the recogni- tion of assignments of pay which requires the decision of the attorney for the District, and it is now thought that the payments will’ not be commenced until the first of next week. OTHER MATTERS, The tirst order of the Commissioners in rela- tion to the consolidation of the office of register with that of the controller, bas been modified by consolidating said office with that of the col- lector of taxes instead. He had an offer of eighty thousand dollars for the property; one-third to be paid in cash; bal- ance in one and two years, with interest at six percent. The matter of the adequacy of that sums a price for the property was referred to the auditor and commissioner, Robert Leech, to | reportaupon.
