G. Moore, the partuer of Governor Shepherd, has received any money, or that he was bribed in any way in the awarding of the contract. Kirtland bad the advantage of soma acquaintance with Moore, and, stter he had | seen Chittenden, went to'see Moore and re- quested him to speak to Shepherd about him, which Moore agreed todo. After the contract had bee ‘arded, Kirtland came to Moore and propored to give him halt of the $72,000 in notes, Which Moore refused to touch. Kirtland then said that when he realized upon the notes he should place haif the amount to his credit, and @rew up a wrictcn memoraudam to that effect which he gave to Moore. After the contract bad been annulled, the Doolittle letters came, threatening to expose the presumed bribary if his client, DeGuiyer & McClellan, were inter- fered with. Mr. Moore thereupon destroyed his memorandum. and this ended his relations With Kirtland. With the history of these notes the public is familiar. Kirtland realized some £20,000 on them, and was plucked of one half of it by the Ker. Brown, and the other half soon dribbied away. The whele matter, therefore, is summed up im the fact that, even if Mr. Chittenden in- tended to bribe anybody, he did not succeed in beat, und was badiy taken in by him.
