Mr. Shepherd (Mr. Youngs in the chair) cailed up concurrent resolution requesting a | modification of the law exempting church anit school property from taxation. Mr. Shepherd urged the justness of some modification in the | law, stating that by this law the District lost annually. M 1 exemptions. Mr. Shepherd explained that he was in favor of exempting property actually used for | ‘k, as well as at Ford’s | church and parsopage purposes, and of taxing auch property as is held by churches and char table institutions as investments, some of which they have leased and derive a revenue there- | from, and yet pay no taxes.
