Mus Kellogg's singing of “I dreamt I dwelt in Marble Halis” ‘was a charming bit of melody, and the other popular solos of the opera were fairly sung by the other members of the troupe. The tragic dignity of Mrs. Seguin’s “Gipsy Queen” rather astonished those who have thonght her only fitted for the lighter characters, which she aesumes so charmingly. They have reference to the white schools, but they apply with equal force to the colored schools. Changes of beoks, perhaps, in them are more frequent than in the White schools, and we can’t see any sense in it. I regard it as an unnecessary and shamefui tax, and one that colored people generally can very illy afferd to pay. Their employment is ot of that remunerative kind thet they have Wore money than what is required by abso- Jute wants of life. Their existence is only aus tained by constant struggle, and but few of them realize more from their labor than a mesgre support, Ihe trustees of our schools sbould have a regard for the circamstances of those whose children are ynder their charge for useful and inexpensive education.
