The citizens of the vicinity at White Post, Clarke county, Va, were thrown into a terrible state of excitement by the report of the killing | of Clinton Little by bis brothers, Oscar Little and Lge Little; also the wounding of their mother and several other members of the fam- ily, as stated in yesterday's Stan. STATEMENT OF COLUMBUS LITTLE. Mr. Columbus Little, the oldest of the six brothers, who is a coachmaker on G, near 7th street, in this city, a powerful man, about 35 years of age, and who presided at the breakfast table on the morning of the fata! shooting, was at Tae Star office to-day, and says thatthe accounts of the affair telegraphed from Win- chester were gross exaggerations, magnityin, an accident which yrage his family tnte gric: into a bloody crime. is a of the anf His father is Mr. Franklin Little, a former resident of Washington city, and canal com- missioner under Mayor Towers. He moved with bis family, in 1857, to the farm, about seven miles from Winchester, where they have «ince resided, the farm having been the property of the family for over 70 years. Nothing bas at avy time occurred to disturb the harmony of the brothers beyond the usual h qnarre: A week or two ago Clinton Little. the secoudt son, (about 31 years oid,) came to Washin:to and soid bis Lorses, and his brothers, Colum- bus, the eldest, and Walter, the youngest, (who ix @ drug clerk with Mr. “Cropley, in Georgetown,) accompanied him how to spend the 4th of duly at the turm! Mr. Franklin Little, the father, was busy super- intending the ereetion of w row of houses he was having bnilt on 10th street, near B, and re- mained in Washington. ‘The six brothers avere reunited under the family roof-tree, with the wife of Columbus and a’ sister of the Littles and one or two young ladies. On the 4th the brothers were to have a shooting mai target, but postponed it until next ¢ went to visit a neighbor, Willie L they all went ton pic-nie.” Next morning (the 5th) they all got up early to prepare for the projected shooting match, and were busily cleaving their arms aud loading them—so-us four or five pistols and x ritle—wheo they were called in to breakfast by thetr mother. It being her rule to require prompt attendance at meal times, the brothers suspended operations and all laid down their arms except Oscar, (next in age to Clinton,) who put his pistol in his pocket and Lycurgus, (about twenty years oid,) who, with boyish eagerness to be ready for the first shot, took his weapon, a large navy revolver, to the table with him. After trifiing with it awhile he laid it across his lap, the muzz! ponting towards his mother (next to him) a Sinton beyond. The ladies (except Mrs. Little) h not yet come to the table. ‘The pistol, it seems, was cocked, for while they were at bi fast it was discharged—stiil lying across the lap of Lycurgus—and the ball passed through the thigh of Mrs. Little, and into the body of Clinton. Columbus Little positively states that this accidental shot was the only one Little had fired inor out of the house. My no artery touched or bone broken ing well when Columbus Littl this morning. Clinton Little wounded. and died in the arms of ( 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, about | after the shooting. Mr. Columbus Li that there was very naturally great exe in and about the house, and that the V ter reporters or correspondents took down the tule as it was toll by gossipping country neigh- bors, He says that the examination of and Lycurgus will prove the great injust done the family by the published reports ot tue astnir, THE OTHER BIDE. Notwithstanding this, stiil stick to their acc n of this morning says:—A: rtained, the facts are these: Clinton Little had occasion to take several horses to Washington, D. C and make sale of them, and on Saturday morn- ing, July 5th, as Clinton Little, bis mother, his brotaers and several other members ot the fam- ily were aitting at the breakfast table, they were surprised by the entrance into the room of the two brothers, Oscar and Lycurgus Little, wh». locking the door, walked ny to Clinton Little and made a demand for half the money that he had received from the sale of the horses, stating that if he did not hand over they would murder him. Suiting the action to the word, both brothers, Oscar and Lycurgns Littla, pre- sented their pistols and commenced tiring on their brother, who fell mortally wounded. Whilst on his knees he was beaten in the face and temple by one of his brothers, whose pistol failed to fire.” During the firing the mother was seriously wounded by a pistol-shot in the thig!. The room was literally covered with blood, as seen by several witnesses After Clinton Little had been killed, the two brothers, Oscar aud Lycurgus, attempted to eseape, when a younger brother, picking up a rifle, discharged it at his brother's tiurderer, and inflicted a wound in his leg, and the remaining brother fired a shot at him, and wounded the one firing the rie. The whole result was the killing of one brother and wounding of the mother and two brot!irs. ‘The two murderers are now contined in the Clarke county jail at Berryville, Va. A Wine! 'T correspondent of the Baltimore Sun writes as follows: Mr. Little, ar., fatuer of the st is ig oe in Washington city, ant hastened home Saturday evening on learainz the news of the terrible affair, which is now tho great theme of conversation in this whole sec- tion of the country. As yetall the factwin the case are not knowu beyond the account of the desperate struggle which has been given. Oscar Little is » druggist, and is generally called D: Little. Some time ago, it is stated, he and L5- curgus secured what they were entitied to. would be entitled to, from the family estate, and went west, but spending their property re- turned, hg nog clobeger demands, which were ré~ sisted by the three other brothers and the mo- ther. Inthe fight Oscar Little’s pistol snapped several times, and proved worthiess asa weapon. Lycurgus, &t the first fire, missed his brother Clinvon and shot the mother, and fired again, givifg Clinton the martal wound. In the sab- sequent melee Oscar atid Lycurgus were over- powered, disarmed and driven out of the hous: Columbus, one of the*brothers acting on thé defensive, is a very powerful man, and Gilbert, who fired the rife, is very delicate. They were both badly cut and injured about the head by the attacking party with the but-ends of pistols. Afterwaras, it is alleged, Oscar and Lycargus pes retarned to the house, the former with a rifle ball in his leg, and took a large dose of morphine, which, however, did not have the de- siredeffect. Finally Oscar and Lycargus weré laced under arrest and conveyed to the county ai of Clarke county.
