Persons leaving the city for the summer, or any portion of it,can have Tas Star mailed to their address for such time as they desire, atthe rate of fifty cents per month. Orders, accom- panied by the money, should be sent te the busi- bess office of the paper. — The Polaris Expedition. Secretary Robeson, in reporting the resalts of the investigation upon the Polaris matter very Properly gives the testimony of the rescued par- ties, even where it seems to bear hard upen those whe are now absent on the Polaris, and who have no chance of defending themselves. ‘The secretary is right in holding that it is better this shoald be published as given rather than that its suppression should be made the founda- tion of sensational! and alarming reports. There seems no good reason to suppose that the party On the ite-floe were wantonly deserted by Capt. Baddington, and thongh the evidence, we re- aret to say, does not satisfactorily clear up the suspicion that Capt. Hall was foully dealt With, there is nothing to implicate Baddington. He seoms to be a biuif, outspoken, impulsive man, Whose worst fanit is an appetite for drink. If Capt. Hall was poisoned, it was by a cooler Land than Baddington’s. It must have been lone by some one baving a knowledge of chem- istry, and of the action of different poisons upon the human stomach, and of the strength Of the doses to be given with proper intermis- sions, that the death shonkt not be snspi- ciously sudden. Capt. Hall told the Exqui- riaux, Joe, that his coffee had been poisoned — that he felt a “burning” sensation at the ymach after drinking it. This 1s the well- known sensation from the action of poison on the stomach. As Capt. Hall at stages of his sickness seemed te be laboring under halluct- pations of mind, it would not be right to attach teo much importance to what he said in this respect. Should the missing crew of the Po- laris be found, perhaps the matter may be cleared up. At present the mystery is rather intensified than solved by the discrepant testi- mony of the party on the ice-tioe. pe tiie iets aap The tax bill as it passed the House of Dele- gates levies two dollars on each one handred Gollarsof the assessed value of real estate in Washington and Georgetown, and one dollar and fitty cents in the county.
