The wife had an intery with her husband before the arraignment_ had by the magistrate, and promised that if he would forsake the frail sister-in-law and return to the bosom of his family, all prosecution against him should ceuse.. The husband, who fancied he saw before him a long term of im- prisonment in case the charges inst him were prosecuted, quickly accepted the terms roposed by his wife, aud his determination jing made known to Justice Bell, he was dis- cliarged from custody. After the couple had again been rennited, the husband stated that he would remain in Baltimore afew days longer for the purpose of completing some work which h¢ had undertaken, and that when it was fin- ished he would return to New Yark, the wite in the meantime to remain in this city ‘for the pur- pose of holding him to his new matrimonial contract —Balt. American, 100k. ANOTHER Pamic in Panis—Renewal of the Differences Between Thiers and the Committee of Thirty—The hopes of a satisfactory adjustment of the differences between President Thiers and the Committee of Thirty, which were fondly entertained some days since, have been rudely dissipated. ‘The constitutional praject was further considered by the committee on Saturday, and completed by the adoption of an amendment providing that the Couneil of Min- intera shall decide whether the presence of M. Thiers is required in the Assembly during the discussions on interpellations. Proposals 2s to speedy legislation in regard to the election for and composition of the next Assembly, the composition and powers of the Secoud Cham- ber, also of the organization of the executive, were rejected. ‘The action of the committee appears to have been wholly unexpected, and has naturally created excitement and uneasi- ness in Paris amounting almost to a panic. 7 Tne Lrapinity oF THE Board or Hearn. ‘To-day, in the circuit court, Judge Cartter, pie case of John Colbert agt. the board of health, was tried. Colbert entered suit before a magis- trate against the board for trespass in taking up his cows contrary to law in May last, claim- ing $100. Severa! other similar suits were brought at the same time, and in order to have the case finally decided the counsel for the parties con- sented toa judgment for plamtiff, and appeal wastaken. ‘The plaintiff was re} mted by Mr. James G. A Snort Roap To THE GALLows.—The New York Journal of Commerce demands a speedy trial for every murderer that 1s now in the Tombs. It says:” These men gave notime, no warning to their victims, when they shot them down; and no more than justice ‘would have been done upon the assassins had they been tried, convicted, and hanged within twen- Pape hours thereafter. Time is the one favor that all murderers ask; time to prove they are insane; time for witness to die; time for healthy public feeling to subside. But if time is valua- ble tothem in escaping justice, it is far re Precious to the peaceful and orterly men who ive in constant danger trom knife and slung- shot, so long as these butchers remain unha: Altogether too much time has been given to King, Scannell, and the rest of the m in the Tombs. ‘Under a better state of things— with such a court as we desire to see established in this city for the exclusive and speedy trial of felons—about twenty men, now in arrears of the hanging that they deserve, would be on a short road to the gallows.
