At the meeting of the board of health last evening, Dr. Verdi, the health officer, submit- ted the smallpox report for December, showin, that 261 cases were reported in that month—1 males, 127 females; 163 colored, 98 whites. Of this number 104 died, and 78 were removed to hospital; 73 were ‘never vaccinated, 25 pre- to5 5 years; 33 were under 5 years of age, i2 from 5 to 12 years. 29 from 10 to 20 years, i7 from 20to 30 years, and 1140 years and upwards. He also reported that Dr. W. D. After giv- ing his views as to how vaccination should be ager how the points should be kept, &c., he urges that the board request the legisiature to pass alaw making vaccination compulsory, &e. COMPLAINT AGAINST POUND MEN. A communication was received from Richard Tosgan, complaining that his cows were seized, and himself severely assaulted, by pound mas- ter’s men, in December last; that he was com- pelled to pay #8 to recover his cows, and asked that this amount be refunded; referred to the sanitary police committee.
