ad OR a a EVENING STAR. _ ~ GBOBBY 8. NOYES. Editor. Largest Cireulation in the District ———————_—_ Beading Matter on Every Page. WASHINGTON OITY: WEDNESDAY.....November 27, 1872. To-m rrow being Thanksgiving Day, no paper will be teened from this office. The cable disp STAR were of a character to dishearten the friends of republican irstitations, and incite serious apprehensions as to the continuance of peace in that unfortunate country, which has suffered so much from bad government; but last night's dispatches had @ much more hopeful tone. The difficulty between President Thiers and the National Assembiy seems likely to find its solution in the appointment of a comuuittee of thinty by the Assembly, who will pro- pose certain constitutional reforms, to which the President will assent. The committee on the President's address submitied a report to the Assembly, indicting the radical party, and insisting on the establishment of a responsible ministry as s means of fightingit. A motion by the minority of the committee to postpone the matter until Thursday was carried—yeas. 306; naye, 332. This result was regarded as very tavorable for the government, and as natural- ly ending the crisis, at least for the present. ‘This is very gratifying news, as the resignation of Tbiers would undoubtedly lead to a dissolu- tion of the assembly or a new revolution. To enable the reader to better understand the sita- ation, and as a key to future dispatches, it may be stated that the political forces @ the French assembly ere divided into six sections, as fol- lows :—First, the extreme lett or radical wing, about seventy in number, and here Louis Blanc is found. Second, the republican teftor mod. erate republicars, about one hundred and sixty im number, of whom Grevey is a fair type. ‘Third, the left center, or still more moderate republicans of the Thiers school, with about one hundred and forty members, under the lead of Chasney. Fourth, the center right or Or. leanists, about one hundred in number, with several titled leaders. Fifth, the right or mon- archists, who prefer Henry V. or VI. They number about one hundred and twenty. Sixth, the extreme right or ultra-monarchists, num- bering about sixty deputies, whoare waiting for Henry and his white flag, under the lead of Count de Beauregard. No party has a ma- jority, and therein lic3 the st-ength ot Thiers. The recent epidemic among the horses de- monstrated the importance of a thorough vete- rivary education, and the fact that many of our fo-calied “ horse doctors” are little better than quacks and pretenders, There is no reason in ihe world why veterinary eurgeons should not be es well educated for their pecaliat profession &s physicians, who minister t> haman disease. States would do well to found and foster vete- i the government might du cious things than establishing mat ns of every description in the United ioner of Edue ition finds that tone veterinary colleg. im the coun- ted in New Vu rk cit! Among them are biennial sessions of the legislature, prohibt- tion of “deadbeading” state officers on railway lines. regulating appropriations for special pur- poses, and “salaries and not fees” for theclerks and other officers of the Philadelphia courts. All of t) ese propored reforms seem to meet the appreval of the journals of both parties, which is @ good and chealtay sign of the Soman § ——-<02- in oees t to fully ventilate the Prince-Carring- ton £29,000 libel suit against Taz Star, we have given @ phonographic report of the testi- mony, and of the arguments of Messrs.
