The Gems “Planted” to Sell Green- horns, Sam Francisco, Nov. 2\.—A meeting of the directors of the San Francisco and New York Commercial and Mining company, was held yesterday afternoon to receive reports from the geographical survey sent out under Clarence King, and consisting of Mr. King, D. D. Colton, Surveyor Bast, and Mr. Frey. Voluminousre- porte from the survey were received denouncing the whole pretended discovery as a gigantic fraud. The trustees at once adopted # resolu- tion to the effect that the fraud be at once and tally exposed, in order that the public may be protected; also, tbat no more stock be issued or transterred and that the corporation be dis- solved as soon as practicable. The public are warned against any further transaction on the taith of alleged discoveries. All stock thas far told is still held by W. ©. Ralston, at the Cali- fornia, and the original corporators will assame the lows from the operations of the company. The report of Clarence King gives the opera- tions of bis surveys in detail in the vicinity of he Table Rock. Diamonds and rubies were found on the surface and in crevices, but in every instance of @ “tind” there was evidence that the soil bad been tampered with. In « vices where there were no traces of the work of man bo evidence of the existence of precious nes was discovered. Some diamonds were found in what were evidently artificial holes. The conclusion arrived at by Mr. King is that the gems found were in positions where they would have been deposited by the band of man, and that none exist where, if their occurrence had been genuine, the inevitable laws of natare would bave placed them. Finally, be asserts that the expected diamond fields have been salted or scattered over with precious stones for the purpose of deceiving unskilled searchers. Reports of other explorers corroborate] that of Mr. King. The Bulletin, some time since, pub- lished a partial ez; of the operations of Ar- noid, the ‘man who cold the origina: discovery to the Harpenning company for £150,000.
