At a meeting of the boardof health last mght, Mr. Marbury, from the finance committee, made a statement in relation to the bill of Messrs. Fitch & Co. for disinfectants, which bad been presented at a previous meeting. ‘The quantity of disinfectants used by the board for fetid matter bad not been separated in the bill from that used by the scavengers. He world not object to paying them, say $500, on account of the disinfectants used, but the scavengers must pey their own bills. He, as treasurer, ould mat poy, out one penny for them. This was the understanding when the board decided to use the disinfectant. Dr. Verdi took a different view of the matter. He believed the board liabie for the payment of the bill already contracted. ‘They must look out im the fature, and the scavengers must be mad: to refund the amount to the board. Mr. Marbury opposed thix view of the case, and stated that he had been informed that M Fiteh & Co. had been paid some amoants by the scavengers, which should be ded trom the bill.
