Bradley, jr., counsel for the Wash- ington and Georgetown Railroad Company, has informed the board of public works that it is the personal desire of Mr. Riker, and that of the railcoad corapany, to avoid any further ques- tionsof authority end duty, differing only with the board concerning the effect of the lawe, and preters to make the following inquiry: whether or not the board desired or would permit the company to remove the track laid by them on Pennsylvania avenue, between 2d and 4th streets east, Outside the proposed park line, the com- pany to pay the contractor the cost of relaying and putting in order so much of the wooden Pavement as might be necessary to put it in as good condition as the rest of that part of the avenue now is. I think that the future will show they were right, and that it wonld have been better for all parties con- cerned had their plan been carried out.” jh stat sion ta SincutaR Case—A Whole Family Reported Insane.—Last evening Officers Lyles and Rose- berry, of the fourth precinct (1st ward) police, reported to Lieutenant Greer that the family of Henry Speaks, colored, residing ina house on New Hampshire avenue, between L and M streets, were insane. Lieutenant Greer went to he place, and on his rapping at the door the daughter of Speake, a grown young woman named Sarah, sitting at the window, called out: ‘Don’t come in.” The lieutenant procured a antern, and ~ up stairs found that the daugbter had crawied under the bed and coy- ered herself with bed clothes. On the bed was Sarah, the wife of Speakes, and her son Herbert, but from none of the family could he get a word. The head of the family, Henry Speakes, was not then at Lome, and an officer waa left in charge of the faimily and house. This morning Speakes returned and sent the boy to work. Subsequently the lieutenant, on visiting the honse, found the daughter with a bible in her ‘ap, singing. Speakes says that three or four weeks since the daughter embraced religion, and the mother got uuder conviction of sin, and the boy also, since which time they have been out of their minds at times, and he believes that he has caught the same ailment himself!
