ee TNT, ‘EVENING STAR. LOCAL NEWS. Condensed Locals. ‘The 19th district republicans last night — to attend the Grant ratification meeting on Tuez- day night next. ‘ Gov. Cooke has appointed Capt. Jas. E. Wangh @ notary public for the District of Columbia, vice Mr. Arthur Shepherd resigned. Mr. Richard Owen has been appointed mail messenger at the navy yard to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Lewis. Owen served im both the navy and army during the war. Richard Johnson, colored, his hip dislo- cated this morning by the fauting tn of bank of earth where be was working in Howard Uni- versity grounds. Szcoyp DisTacT.—The examination of Miss Georgie Lane's school (female mar) took lace yesterday, and was largely attended. Mr. Woodward examined the school in mental arithmetic, Mr. Detrick in written arithmetic, Mr. McLellan in graphy, and Mr. A. K. Browne in mar.
