EVENING STAR. CONGRESSIONAL. Conclusion Yesterday's Proceedings. SENATE.—After our report closed, The river and harbor appropriation bill was assed. ‘Mr. Stockton called up Dill suthorizing an inquiry into the causes of steam-boiler explo- ions, which was passed. Mr. Sawyer asked to take up House bill giv- ing the approval and sanction of Congress to the termini and route of the Anacostia and Poto- mac river railroad, and to regulate its construc- ton and operation, which, after some discus- sion, was agreed to; bat, ‘without proceeding with it, the Senate went into execatly ve session, and then took a recess until 7:30 p. m. In the evening session the bill in relation to the Anacostia and Potomac river railroad was proceeded with, and Mr. Stewart otfered an smendment, giving the sanction of Con; to the acts of the legislative assembly of the Dis- trict of Columbia, authorizing the Union Rail- way Company to build a horse railroad from rtheru boundary of Georgetown, and also the ruction of a horse railroad by the Boundary and Silver Spring railroad company, provided within thirty & majority of the stoekbollers accept the provisions of this act; prohibiting the laying of tracks along I and streets by Farragat and Scott squares; farther providing that no more street railroads shall be constincted in the District of Columbia with- out authority of Congress. After debate the Dill was referred to the committee on the Dis- trict of Coinmbia. After some discussion on the conference re- Porton the steambeat bill, the Senate at 10:10 adjourned. a Further Particulars of the Murder of Captain Coivocoresses. Since the murder of Captain Colvocoresses, Jacts have transpired which serve to involve the affair in still further mystery. A di trem Bridgeport, Conn ation of the clo: ihe latter was open when he was found, and his shirt was on fire from the explosion. In passing ©ut, the ball went through his coat. This fact ‘would seem to show that he either in a scuflle which preceded the shet bad his vest torn Open, or opened it himself for some purpose unknown. ‘There are various theories afloat concer! the jnatter, particularly in view of the large amount 1 imsurance which the deceased h effected on his life. The friends of Colvocoresses in Litchfield state that he took no money with him when he left dome, and even left his watch behind him. From the time that he was last seen alive to the time of the shot was come — = — ample time for him to have returned; and the shot was not freq til tal after the boat had pushed off from the dock, as ahe Sampo who heard the shot and found the dying man testifies. All these facts serve to Involve the matter in the dee: mystery, and the weapon used, the finding of the ned jnd ritied, and the finding of another aif cor- yesponding with the one which passed through the murdered man, on the sidewalk near the place of the tragedy, still further ‘complicate ihe affair. A post-mortem examination, made at the instance of friends of the deceased, showed that the pistol-shot wound was the only one the dead man received, and there were no wther marks of violence upon his body. The authorities are vigorously working up the case Capt. Colvocoresses was insured for $173,0000n dis lite. All of this, saving $19,600 and 35,000 inthe Berkshire company, was effected since wJanuary 13, 1572, and of the total amount $163,- 100 was effected throngh A. E. Smith, of the tirm ef Blanchard & Smith, managers of the Commonwealth Life, 73 Broadway. The pre- Jaiums are payable semi-annually, and amount to about The policies were payable to bimeelf. Captain Colvocoresses had an appointment with Mr. A. E. Smith at the Astor House on ‘Tuesday, and was on his way to New York to keep that appointment when bis death occurred. Reliable and competent witnesses testify that | ‘only a few moments previous to the shot they faw men standing in close conversation on the corner of Clinton and Main streets, not one hundred teet from where the shooting occurred. ‘Of al! the rumors arloat this is the only grain of truth that can be sitted ont to the present time, but it isexpected that further developments Will soon nuravel the mystery. 827A Detroit dog mangled two small children and drove off-astreet commissioner who hal Gred seven shots at him. &7-A writer on physiognomy sagely says: “A human face without a nose does not amount to much,” whereupon Smiggles observes that a buman pose without a face dosen't amount to ouch, either. 4&7 Billy Brennan, while e playing Antonia.
