Harrison called for the police and ergeant bold and Officer Boyle hearing the crict went to his relief, but the fellows seeing them approach took to'their heels and ran sey- eral miles before they were caught. They were strangers to Harrison, and could give no reason for the assault, except pure cussed- So thought the jadge, he fined Junnington $10 and the others £5 each. Edward Davis, a halt-grown white boy, was arrested by Officer K. H. Cook pulling off some roses in the Agricultural grounds, Davis stated that he was a country boy, and did not know the rules; be wanted a tlower for his mother and sister, who were walking with him in the grounds, In consideration of this the judge reprimanded him and let him off. Wm. Hill, a fine and silky-looking young man, was charged with being drunk and abusive to the officers; $10. Charles Swain, drunk and profane; 85. Frances Ford, colored, charged with larceny of a pocket book with $3, gold stud, gold locket, and gold earring, all valued at about 310, the property of Sarah Owens. This is another case of misplaced confidence in a servant girl, and which is of daily occurrence in this city. ‘O/i- cer Breisford arrested the girl and she owned to the theft; $10. Thomas Sears, a white man, assault on Amanda Carter, colored; €200 bonds io keep the peace, and stand committed until given. GEORGETOWN. ‘Ture New Main.—The work of laying the new 36-inch main is now nearly completed. A connection has been made at the west end of the Aqueduct bridge across Rock creek, and workmen were to-day engaged in filling up the trench. As has already been stated, the water will be cut off trom this city and Washington at 8 o'clock this evening. for the purpose of mak- ing a cross-eonnection with te 30-inch main at It will be necessary to ent the weter off again, probably on Sunday next, to make the connection at the reservoi ne Babcock expects to have the new main laid, all the connections made, and the water turned on by the middle of next week. A magistrate’ court was held at Catts’ tavern, West End, on Saturday last, by Justices Fowle and Barnum, during which ‘Theodore Teed ap- peared and demanded that Constable J. U. Kerby execute certain warrants he had obtained against residents ot the city whose cows had trespassed upon his grounds. The constable re- fused upon the ground that be had no authority to arrest residents of one county on warrants iseued in another, and was sustained by Justice Fowle, while Justice Barnum took the opposite view of the case. Mr. Teed then accused Jus- tice Fowle of partiality and rebellions proclivi- ties, and was ordered out of court for contempt, and refusing to go was scized by Constable Ker- by, and after a scuftie, in which the latter’s iskers were pulled, was pushed out of the room and thrown into the road, and but for bis age would have been roughly handled.
