It will be seen by the very full special and regular dispatches elsewhere in today’s paper that the C’ncinnati convention met at noon to-day, and proceeded to a temporary organ- Szation. The course marked out in Tae Star ©n Monday as necessary to be taken by the Tepresentatives in attendance before the real ‘Work of the mecting can be touched will besub- Etantially followed, and in consequence very little of real moment will be done until to-mor- Tow. Meantime, as our special corresr ndent says, the situation changes hourly, and eo far nothing has transpired from which a satisfactory idea can be formea as towhat the final issue will yrobably be. It is therefore equally idle to venture predictions or to waste time and space in comments on possible contingencies. The reports for the afternoon are still coming as this is placed in type, and to them we refer the reader. Each can probably form conclusions to suit himself from such information as is so dar at hand. ‘The Methodist General Conference. The twenty-first general conference of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States, which commenced its sessions in Brooklyn, N. ¥., to-day, will be in many respects the most important council ever held by the followers of Werley. By a resolution of the general confer- Ence of 1°65 it was declared that shoulda ma- jority of the votes cast by the people be in favor ©f lay delegation, and shonld three-fourths of nil the members of the annual conference pres- ent and voting thereon, vote in favor of the proposed change in the constitation of the church, then the general conference meet- ing this year would, by the requisite two-thirds vote complete the change, and lay delegates, previously elected, might then be admitted. As is generally known, the measure received the approval of the people and the local confer- ences; the delegates have been chosen, and it only remains for the general conferet.ce to take action whereby the change may be consummat- ESIDENTIAL CAUPAIGS. This means that the democratic emi. It will, however, have the support of our neighbors of the iot, which will be a great thing. oo Referrmg to the close of the recent investi. gation of district affairs, the Philatelphia Press, which fully understands the local situation here very pointedly says: “ Now we trust there isan end, and that the work phen “rp the capital will be allowed to roceed witbou interruption.
