Increase or CanaL Trapre—The office of Collector Blunt, of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, is still open, and will remain open for the transaction of necessary business until the Ist proximo. During the last season 2.275 boats more than last year arrived at the collector's office. This shows an increase of nearly 30 per cent in the business of the canal. Svipex Dnatu.—Mre. Elizabeth Lunstord, wife of Mr. Wm. Lunsford, died suddenly at her residence yesterday. The deceased was an old resident of this city ,and was generally esteemed for her many virtues. Her funeral will take place as advertised elsewhere. Ray's docks shipped 1,270 tons. The Censolida- Company received 230 tons, and shipped 3,100 tons. ALEXANDRIA. Tne River Crosep.—The intense cold Weather ot last might froze the Potomac, at this point, and for a considerable distance above and below the city, from shore to shore, and that too with ice so thick that some of the steam boats could not force a passage through it, and the river to-day bas been completely blockaded except to the Aquia Creek mail boats, and they have been many hours behind time. The Wash- ington ferry line is closed. The steamer Gity of Washington, on her five o'clock trip yesterday evening, picked up off the Arsenal, a row. boat containing @ man almost frozen ‘to death and brought him to this city, where he was taken care of. The tug boat G. M. Griftin also picked up a boat containing a man who was frozen to death when taken on board.
