Jobnes, chief clerk of the Pension Office, a nated in this wise: Sometime since an old soldier of the war of 1812 walked all the way from Poughkeepsie, New York, to this city to obtain a pension for his services in the war men- tioned. As he had no money, Major Johnes gave him a note to the Old Soldiers’ Home, where he emained for some weeks. When his written pag og for a pension was filed it was found at he had served but fifty-seven days, and oa not entitled, for the reason that the law grants pensions only to such soldiers of the war of 1812 as at least sixty days.
