Meetings in Aid of the Relief Fand THE MASONIC FRATERNIT A mas: mecting of the Masonic fraternity was held last night at the Temple in response to the call of Grand Master C. F. Stansbary, to take action in behalf of the the Chicago sufferers. Mir. Stansbury was called to the chair, and the following vice presidents were elected, A. G. Mackey, J. Di Cox, Rev. Byron Sun- deriand, Rev. J.P. "Newman, Hon. N. P. Chi man, M. Thompson, and Hon. Wm. B. Snell; With’ the tolluwing’ secretaries DL Allison Nailer, jr., D. 5. Jones, and J.T. Gard. ner, and Past Grand Master R. B. Donaldson as treasurer ©. ©. Cox and A. G. Maekey were appointed a committee on resolutions. During the absence of the committee Dr. Senderiand made some appropriate remarks, which were frequently applauded. ‘The committee returned, and submitted reso- tions declaring that the Masonic fraternity of the District of Columbia tender their heartfelt sympathy to our fellow-citizens of all classes and conditions in the city of Chicago, who have suffered by the appalling conflagration which has visited their community; that, as & national order located at the capital and representing all the States and Territories in the Union, we will do ali in our power to mitigate the sadden and terrible suffering occasioned by this dire calam- ity; that immediate steps be taken to forward, as soon as possible, to the Grand Master of II nois from the Masons of this District such sum as they may contribute; that the Grand Master of this jurisdiction be requested to issue a pub- lic address to all Masons in the District of Co- bia to unite with their brethren elsewhere and the citizens at large in aid of the great work Of relieving the svfferers, and that a committee of ten be appointed to solicit contributions to this benevolent object. The resolutions were adopted. Hon. C. C. Cox and Dr. Newman made ad- eresses. “The latter gentleman said: “Most Worshipful Grand Master and brethren, the time for words has passed, the time for action has arrived. There is an old proverb which says ‘silence is silver, action is gold.’ Preachers are poor, but in view of the object for which we are assembled, I beg, a8 my speech this evening, toofter vou my check for $50.” [Continued a; plause.j The meeting insisted upon Dr. XN. making an address, and in respouse to the cali he made a short one. When he had concluded the gentlemen crowded around the tables of the five secretaries.
