A cable telegram states that the liverymen of London, in accordance with thelr annual cus- tom for centuries, assembled to-day in Guildhall and elected a mayor for the civic year, the choice falling on Alderman Fitz John Gibbons. As this may not be qnite intelligible on this side of the water, it may be added that the freemen ot the ninety-one guilds, or corporations which embrace the different trades of London are called liverymen, because entitled to wear the livery of their different companies.
