GEORGETOWN, BOARD OF ALDERMEN.—Thie boar! met last evening, when Common Council bills tor the relief of the Corporation clerk; providing for a contingent fund for the Mayor; to pay accounts of the poor and workhouse for quarter ending December 31, 1*7¢; retunding a license paid for @ charitable concert at Forrest Hall; to pay the expenses of the late registration; and to cancel stock issued consejuent upon the purchase of the town hall, and for other pur s, were severally considered and passed. Mr. Magru- der offered an amendment to the tax bill r-- cently passed by the Counci's, which was adopted. It provides for the repeal of all special taxes, leaving collectible oniy the general tax of 70 cents on the 8100; increasing also the com- mission of the tax collector to four per cent. In offering the amendment Mr. Magruser ex. plained that there was no money on hand for Dope purposes, but that since the territorial ill had passed there seemed to be such general objection to the payment of taxes levied by the corporation that it was better to reduce the rate. A clause in his amendment provided refunding of moneys to all who had already y the taxes now proposed to be repealed. ‘T Governor had recommended the adoption of the amendment, and me counsel had advised the step. On motion of Mr. Magruder, the Corpo- ration Clerk was relieved of ail responsibility in regard to the Haddersley charity fund, and ordered to turn over the fund, with the accu- mulated interest. to the Female Union Benevo- lent Society and the Industrial Home School.
