Mr. Champlip presented a communication from Samuel Yorke AtLee, Esq., saying :-—On behalf of several gentlemen—a list of whose names is hereto annexed—holding in gratetul rememprance the character and services of Mrs. Margaret Milburn Amidon, late principal of the Indies’ grammar school in the fourth district, 4 have the houor to offer to the Board of Trustees the accompanying gold medal. It is intended as a reward to that pupil of said school most distinguished for scholarship and ior amiability, who shall have been selected by the concordant votes of her teacher and of Ler schoolmates. A QUESTION OF LAW, Edward Law, colored, was charged with be'ng the father of Susan Lemon's illegitimate child. Law is as black as the ace of spades, Lemonis of a bright yellow, and her babe, which she bronght into court, almost white. Law stoutly denied the chrrge, Susan was as earnest in the truthfulness of her assertions that he is thé “pap.” A witness was examined who testi- tied to being the messenger who conveyed seve- ral epistles from Law to che mother of the child, in one of w: he atks the mother to kics the baby for him.
