Fleming, contractor, is about to commence the work, which is to be completed this sammer. ——e A _CoLonen Kk On Tnesday 4 SHor BY aN Orvicer.— e Wall issued a warrant for Jim Gaines, a notorious thief, on assaulting a woman named Mary ast night, Sergeant Seibold, with cers Hunt, Dyson, Caruthers and Amis, sus- eting he was ina shanty on lth street, be- tween © and K streets, surrounded the house, and the sergesnt entering, arrested Gaines, and turned him over to officers Hunt and Dyson, to take to the station. Near ith and U streets, Gaines broke away frem the officers ran. Hunt called to him to stop or he would shoot, but he paid no attention. Two or shots were fired over his head, and Hunt lewered his aim and struck him in the shoulder, which caused him to halt. He was taken to the sta- tion-house and Dr. Croghan summoned. who probed the wound and pronounced it a tlesh wound. Mr. P. H. Donegan in the chair, and Mr. Chris. C. Callan secretary. The Fire Department Cases, The Old against the New Members—New Prsceet- ings—An Injunction. This morning im the Equity Court, Judge Wy- lie, the case of the Old against the New mem- bers of the fire department was taken up, when Mr. Riddle, for the complainants, filed a bill for en injupetion to restrain the appointe.! members of the department from acing %s members of the department. Mr. Riddle read the bill, in which all mem- bers of the old it are complainants, and the newly appointed members, with Messrs. Dubant, Baldwin, Watson and Goodall, Fire Commissioners, ate defendants. Ts were not Co! by the Board of Aldermen; ahd closes by asking that the defendants be enjoined on interfering with the complainants in prosecuting their daties as officers and members of the fire depart ment. Shekell. steamer Wawassett is to accompany the boats down the river and back, and all who desire to witness the sport can do so. There have been five entries for the purse race, as follows:—Curlew, Capt. Thos. Shreeves; Jobn H. Adams, Capt. Join Sewell; Witch of the Wave, Capt. R. brown; Dolphin. Capt. W. McDermott; and Little Ella, Capt. Ed. Tasker. For the cup race six entries have been made:— The Fairy, Capt. Lancaster, Thomas Luck- ett and Sandy Parker, charged with an attray, were arraigned. Luckett plead guilty, and the others not guilty. After the evidence had been heard in this case, Luckett was placed on trial for an assault on Phil. Lancaster, to which he plead “he committed a rape on me.” Lancaster appeared with his head well bridled, one eve being closed, aod his face much distizured. Luekett was fined $25 in each case—affray and a-sault—and costs. Parker received a like se: tence, and Lancaster was committed on ebarge ot larceny.
